My Anglesey photography workshops take place on the stunning Llanddwyn Island, an amazing place to visit and definitely one of the most photogenic beaches in the UK with the now iconic view of Twr Mawr lighthouse. A stunning Aurora display over Anglesey in North Wales

Breathtaking Aurora display of the Northern lights over Anglesey in North Wales

An amazing aurora display of the Northern lights here in North Wales last night. I headed for Penmon lighthouse (Trywn Du) on the Isle of Anglesey hoping to capture the aurora and I wasn't disappointed. The Northen lights lit the skies above Penmon lighthouse for several hours, I arrived at 10.30pm and was still taking photos at 2.30am the next day. The aurora display was pretty spectacular with the skies full of amazing colours, at times almost like a rainbow. A new Anglesey sunset photography workshop

Following several requests I'll be running a winter Anglesey sunset photography workshop on 14th December 2024. This workshop is timed to give participants the best chance of capturing the golden hour light of sunset behind the iconic Twr Mawr lighthouse on Llanddwyn Island.

Visiting another waterfall in North Wales with the camera today - The Vale of Ffestiniog waterfalls

North Wales is a perfect place to discover waterfalls and today I wandered through ancient Celtic rainforest to reach the wonderful waterfall Rhaeadr Cymerau near Llan Ffestiniog. As pretty much always when photographing waterfalls a good flow of water is best so if you're going to visit try to time it after rainfall.

Beautiful winter reflections on Grasmere in the Lake District

Grasmere looked stunning in misty winter light this weekend. The mountain summits were shrouded in cloud with Fairfield looking stunning bathed in subtle winter sunlight

The Fairy Glen is a magical gorge surrounded by steep cliffs set in a wooden ravine and definitely one of the prettiest spots in Eryri (Snowdonia). The name fairy Glen is so called for the mythical sprites which are said to live there. The river runs through the rocky gorge and water levels vary hughely based on rainfall which makes it a great place for long exposure photography as different visits always produce different photos, it never looks the same twice.

It's a few years since I've visited Fairy Glen (Ffos Anoddun) near Betws-y-coed, in fact back in 2015 when I was working on my location guidebook, so I thought with autumn in full colour this morning would be the ideal time to drop in again. I spent around 1.5hrs there waiting for the light and whilst I was hoping for a few early morning sun rays the colours were still rather nice.
